From the South Leave the M6 at Junction 36.
Take the A590 toward Kendal and after about 4 miles take the A595 signed Barrow/Workington.
Stay on this road for about 15 miles, passing Newby Bridge and then turning right at Greenodd towards Broughton in Furness and Coniston. After 2 miles the Coniston road leaves to the right but you keep on to Broughton in Furness (8 miles from Greenodd).

Leave Broughton following signs to Millom and after about a mile you come to traffic lights by a bridge.Turn right just before the bridge at the traffic lights, signed Ulpha. This is a narrow steep road that reaches Ulpha village after 3 miles. Pass through the village and turn left (signed Eskdale and Wasdale) up the very steep hill and follow the Fell Road for 6 miles into Eskdale.
Turn left at the King George pub and go on for about a mile, crossing the railway by The Green station (see sketch map above).
Turn left for Irton Road Station, continue over the railway bridge to the end of the lane.

From the North Follow the A595 coast road to Gosforth.
Fork left into the village bearing right at the give way.
Follow this road through to Santon Bridge and then into Eskdale, pass the Bower House Inn, turn right towards Irton Road Station, continue over the railway bridge to the end of the lane.
